Why You Need Jesus
When you were young, people around you have probably instilled certain behaviors on you and encouraged you to ‘dress' or 'act’ your capabilities.
“John, try to place the plate right in the center of the dinner mat, so later, the utensils and the glass won’t be crowding it.” Or, “Mary, put three flowers of the same color inside the vase, one having the longest stem and the other two, with the same length, slightly shorter than the first flower.”
You, being the cute and obedient five-year-old kid, carefully position the plate perfectly in the center of the meal mat or pick from among the eight flowers freshly picked from your garden, laid them down in front of you to select which will be the ‘tall’ flower and the two ‘supporting’ yellow flowers. (By the way, did I say they’re also supposed to be yellow? Anyway..)
Maybe, when you were in high school, with your parents’, aunt’s or uncle’s advice; you were driven to take every program or course in college that promised a wonderful, bright future and you've thought of taking each of them.
Or maybe in your twenties, as you worked in a firm, or in a fastfood chain, or in your own computer shop, you suddenly thought, “Was this my plan? Am I doing what I want to do? What I love to do or what I'm passionate about?”
In life, we have a lot of options, a lot of offers, a lot of wants, and probably a lot of to-do's as well.
C.S. Lewis, in one of his books, said, “Even in your hobbies, has there not always been some secret attraction which the others are curiously ignorant of--something, not to be identified with, but always on the verge of breaking through, the smell of cut wood in the workshop or the clap-clap of water against the boat's side? Are not all lifelong friendships born at the moment when at last you meet another human being who has some inkling (but faint and uncertain even in the best) of that something which you were born desiring, and which, beneath the flux of other desires and in all the momentary silences between the louder passions, night and day, year by year, from childhood to old age, you are looking for, watching for, listening for?”
You find that among everything, among all things, from when you were young, to when you become an adult (or at whatever age you are now), there is a need, a hole or a space, a lack, in your innermost self, that needs filling.
And it might be that connection of a person to his Savior (this thing that has constantly been there and just waits to be given attention) – that longing to be a ‘complete’ person at any and every circumstance, in whatever work one decides to do, that longing to be of worth and to not lack anything because His love fills everything.
Jesus satisfies.
In the book of Matthew, the Lord says, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Jesus forgives.
In the book of Isaiah, God says, “Come now, let us reason together,”…”Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool.”
Jesus heals.
Many stories in the Bible give account on this. One story in particular, is the woman with the issues of the blood.
In Luke 8:45, Jesus asked, “Who touched me?” One disciple who was unable to tell if a person really did (because of the great crowd) answered a guess-no to Jesus.
But Jesus, being sure there has been someone who did, kept looking until finally, the woman came to Him and admitted what she did. And Jesus, in the 48th verse of the same chapter said, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
Jesus loves.
In the book of Romans, Paul, one of Jesus’ apostles said, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Jesus saves.
In the book of John, the Lord says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” He was referring to Himself. He is the Savior.
Out of the many things that can be offered by the world, to choose Jesus will be one of the best things that you can decide for yourself.
You need Jesus today; and it is Him you'll always need.
